Managing Legionella Risks

Practical steps to identify and manage risks associated with legionella bacteria have been shared with IOSH’s South East Branch.
Expert Dane Henderson, who has been working in the water treatment industry for over 30 years, discussed the hazards associated with hot and cold water systems in the workplace and ways to assess and manage any risks.
Stewart Proctor, vice-chair of the IOSH South East Branch, said: “The risk of legionella is often overlooked in many workplaces even though they may have extensive hot and cold water systems."
“Any water system, with the right environmental conditions, could be a source for legionella bacteria growth. Employers, or someone in control of premises, have a duty to understand and manage the risk of legionella.”
